Dr Emily Tunks MAAPi AMAPP
Licensed Health Psychologist & Supervisor

In her practice as a Health Psychologist and Somatic Psychotherapist, Emily invites the emotional, somatic and relational wisdom of each individual through Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, Systems Theory and Trauma, Depth, and Eco psychotherapy frameworks. In 2019, Emily’s formal initiation process as a Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapist commenced for Australian and International clinical research trials, including a current MDMA for PTSD in first responders project at Monash University and two projects investigating psilocybin for depression at Swinburne University (2021 and ongoing).
Emily is supervised by and continues to train extensively with several international PAP and trauma experts, Indigenous medicine leaders, as well as experienced local PAP integration and somatic psychotherapists. Emily is a Co-Chair of the Australian Association of Psychologists Incorporated (AAPi) PAP Interest Group and in 2023 she was a clinical PAP trial participant herself in a healthy control/therapist study with two of Australia’s most experienced PAP research therapists.

Building on her long-explored Eastern contemplation interests, Emily deeply respects the healing potential of “non-ordinary” states of consciousness and most importantly, their ethical, reciprocal and useful integration because she strongly believes the ‘peak’ is not the point. She is passionate about understanding the relational influence of the PAP therapist/s on long-term treatment outcomes; specifically how we can utilise and support the nervous system to optimise the triad/dyad relationship, prevent therapist burn-out and explore the unique therapeutic opportunities that can arise within the heightened transference of expanded states.
